Due to heat Relay for Life start moves to 6 p.m.

Montague County Relay for Life has announced due to the heat index expected tomorrow the start time of noon has been moved to 6 p.m. tomorrow at the high school track.
Twelve teams will come together Saturday for the annual Montague County Relay for Life, which returns to Bowie after several years running in Saint Jo.
The relay will be from 6 p.m. to midnight on June 18 at the Bowie High School track. When the relay opens at there will be a special lap to celebrate survivors, followed a lap honoring caregivers.
Survivors and their caregivers are invited to attend and be recognized. Afterward, teams will begin walking to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and local patient services.
There will be time adjustments based on the move due to weather.
Rachel Brown, community manager Relay for Life, High Plains Division for ACS, said throughout the relay there will be activities for the teams and those attending to enjoy. Daytime activities will include face painting, concessions, a bounce house, games and other entertainment.
The luminaria ceremony will be about 9 p.m. around the track. People who want to honor a loved one, a memorial for to say thank you, can purchase a luminaria for $10.
The fight-back ceremony will take place at 9:30 p.m. with the closing ceremony and awards at 11:30 p.m.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.

Youngsters attend swimming lessons this week
