FOOTBALL: Oil Bowl weekend fast approaching

The 79th Oil Bowl Classic is set for 7:30 p.m. on June 18 at Memorial Stadium in Wichita Falls.
The game will feature three Bowie High School players in Kevin Stallcup, Josh Monkres and Chase Hall playing for the East squad.
Stallcup will be playing for Abilene Christian University this coming fall as a preferred walk-on. Hall will head to Belton and play for University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Monkres will play for Kansas Wesleyan in Salina, Kan.
They will be joined by several other local players of note, including Riley Watson, Cody Fletcher and Logan Carter (Henrietta) and Dalton Hess and Dalton Bartel from Muenster.
Football, cheerleading camps
On June 16-17, there will be football and cheerleading camps, with the football players meeting at Memorial Stadium and the cheerleaders at City View High School.
The cost is $40, including an Oil Bowl shirt, and two tickets to the game.
The camps are for boys and girls ages 5-14.
7-on-7 tournament set
There also will be a 7-on-7 tournament during Oil Bowl festivities on June 18, with elimination games at City View.
The championship is set for Memorial Stadium at 5 p.m.

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
