Students squeeze success from first Lemonade Day

The first annual Lemonade Day was a success for Montague County as seven local students made their business debut on May 21.

The event was initiated by the Nocona Economic Development Corporation as part of “Lemonade Day Houston,” a national foundation.

Students from the school districts of Nocona, Prairie Valley, Montague, Gold-Burg and Saint Jo in grades fifth through seventh were invited to participate. The students took courses in marketing, accounting and business planning to gain knowledge needed to run their own business: A lemonade stand.

James Yohe, executive direct or of the Nocona Economic Development Corporation said they about 43 students complete initial registration. Seventeen students began lessons on-line and seven students completed efforts to create their lemonade stand.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
