CROSS COUNTRY: Saint Jo opens season Sept. 3

For the second consecutive season, the Saint Jo High School and Junior High School cross country teams will open in Oklahoma.
Taylor Klement has been named head coach of both the boys’ and girls’ teams, replacing Kyle Sivadon. He will be an assistant at Conference 4A La Vernia, near San Antonio, this year.
The Panthers and Lady Panthers, expected to contend for the District 1A-21 title, will compete at the Duncan Invitational on Sept. 3.
Saint Jo also will compete at meets in Jacksboro on Sept. 17 and Walters, Okla., on Sept. 20.
The schedule takes Saint Jo to Bowie for the Rabbit Run on Oct. 5, and then Decatur for the Reunion Run on Oct. 8.
The dates and times for the district meet have not been determined. The regional meet will take place at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, but the exact date hasn’t been determined. The regional meet deadline is Oct. 31.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
