Gold-Burg Sports Banquet

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.

88th Oil Bowl roster released

With June fast approaching, the 88th Maskat Shrine Oil Bowl is coming up on June 6-7.
While not fully locked in yet, names on most of the rosters have been released and Montague County has several athletes selected for the teams.
Basketball is played first on June 6 at Wichita Falls Memorial.
The girl’s basketball game is scheduled for 6 p.m. while the boy’s game follows at 7:30 p.m.
In the girl’s basketball game, Nocona will be well represented on the east team.
Coaches Kyle Spitzer and Clayton Brown were picked to coach Meg Meekins, Avery Crutsinger and Reagan Phipps one last time. On the west team, Payzlie Cervantes and Krista Reeves from Saint Jo were picked to play.
Later in the boy’s game, Bowie’s Boston Farris and Nocona’s Jose Gomez Jr. were selected for the east team.
The next day on June 7 will feature two volleyball games, also played at Wichita Falls Memorial High School, starting at 4 p.m.
The first game will be the small school game. On the west team, Taylor Patrick from Saint Jo and Kaygan Stone from Nocona are selected to play. On the east team, Aubrey Morman from Saint Jo was selected to play.
The big school game has no local athletes on the current rosters.
The football game is scheduled to follow at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Stadium at Wichita Falls.
The full football roster has not been released yet, but the initial roster for the east squad includes Bowie players Justin Clark, Jorge De Leon, Hunter Fluitt and Braden Rhyne.
Look in next week’s paper for athlete confirmations and updates to local players competing with and against the Wichita Falls area’s best graduating athletes.
