Man dies from gunshot, one man jailed

Terry Richards was arrested at the scene of shooting death Sunday night. The arrest was on an outstanding warrant from Wise County, not related to the shooting.

A shots fired call Sunday night in Oak Shores outside Nocona resulted in the death of a 49-year-old man and the arrest of Terry Lee Richards on an outstanding warrant.
Montague County Sheriff Paul Cunningham state in a Monday morning press release that at 9:17 p.m. on Sunday the sheriff’s office received a call of gunshots at 165 Walnut Road. At the same time Richards, 60, called the sheriff’s office and said he had shot someone.
Upon arrival sheriff’s deputies and Texas Game Warden Chase McAninch found J.C. Brown, 49, had been shot. He was transported to Nocona General Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace David Allen.
The sheriff said Richards was arrested on an outstanding warrant from the Wise County Sheriff’s Office. The warrant was for driving while license invalid with previous conviction. He bonded out on Monday with a $1,000 bond.

Cunningham said they were assisted by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit. This case is still under investigation and it will be referred to the district attorney’s office.

After a year of renovations Nelson Street at Mill was reopened today to traffic. Nearly $3 million in repairs were made to this area to repair major drainage issues. Amon Carter reopens

Lake Amon G. Carter has now (Thursday, Nov. 14) re-opened for boating. Selma Parkremains closed due to electric problems caused by high water. Water levels remain above normal and boaters should be cautious of possible debris.

The lake was closed on Nov. 8 after heavy rainfall and a rising lake level. It is considered full at 920 mean sea level and through the weekend it was topped more than 922 msl.
