MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL: Workman roughed up

Hall of Honor pitcher Brandon Workman was promoted to the Portland Sea Dogs earlier this week.
The Boston Red Sox made the move on Wednesday just before the Sea Dogs were expected to play the Altoona Curve.
The Sea Dogs are the Red Sox Double-A affiliate based in Maine.
Workman didn’t fare well in the outing, giving up five walks in 1-2/3 innings pitched. He surrendered two earned runs and three hits.
His earned-run average stood at 10.80 after the game, which the Sea Dogs actually won 4-3 in seven innings.
In seven rehabilitation outings this year, Workman has posted a 6.94 ERA and walked nine batters in 11-2/3 innings.
This is the latest bump for Workman as he continues rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery in 2015.
Workman’s promotion was first reported by Kevin Thomas from the Portland Press Herald.
It’s unclear if the Red Sox even have Workman in their plans for a September call-up. He’s been working bullpen sessions at every stop on the way.
