VOLLEYBALL: Montague wins at Windthorst Tournament

The Montague School volleyball team won the eighth-grade division of the Windthorst tournament on Oct. 8.
This marked the second straight time the Lady Eagles have won this event.
Montague defeated Electra in the opening round 25-9, 25-12, followed by a convincing win over Archer City 25-7, 25-9.
The Lady Eagles knocked off Holliday in the championship by scores of 25-10, 25-15.
“The girls played with very little errors,” said Angela Kleinhans, the head coach. They served at 90 percent as a team for the entire tournament, and passed and hit the ball extremely well.”
Averee Kleinhans served up five aces, had 13 digs, 31 kills and two assists.
Taygon Jones also served five aces to go with 15 digs, six kills and 11 assists.
Other notable performances were turned in by: Gabby Valdez, two assists; Jasmine Jones, three aces, seven kills; Jackie Hanna, three ace serves, three digs, three assists; Sydni Messer, 25 assists and seven digs.
Montague claimed the Windthorst Tournament championship on Saturday. Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
