Bowie Chamber of Commerce readies western events

Published

on

Bowie celebrates the 150th anniversary of the Chisholm Trail with a weekend of activities April 21-23.
Between 1867 and roughly 1884, the trail which ultimately became the Chisholm Trail, would see more than five million head of cattle and a million mustangs funnel northward to Kansas. While Bowie was not formally organized as a town until 1882, the nearby trail and the arrival of the railroad gave birth to the tent city that would eventually become the City of Bowie, incorporated in 1883.
The Bowie Chamber of Commerce has planned traditional western fun centered around a Longhorn cattle drive, chuckwagons and live music. Main Street Bowie also is joining the fun with a new “Sip and Stroll” event on Friday night.

Read about all the activities in your mid-week News.
