The Gold-Burg High School volleyball team will open the regular season against a familiar coach.
The Lady Bears will play Savoy at 5 p.m. on Aug. 8 in Stoneburg as Gold-Burg squares off against Kristi Tallon’s new team. Kristi Tallon was the former longtime coach in Saint Jo, before being replaced by Dakota Crockett two years ago.
“It’s going to be fun coaching against her again,” said Gold-Burg head coach Cheryl Cromleigh. “I coached against her on the junior high level when I was at Montague. I think it’ll be a good match, and I expect us to do well.”
The Lady Bears were 4-26 overall during the 2016 season, in which they split District 2A-10 games against Prairie Valley. Both teams finished 1-13 in district.
Gold-Burg will be spearheaded by several seniors – including second-team all-district performer Hannah Franklin plus Shelby Horton, Megan Metz, Stormey Edwards and Ashley Rainey. Metz and Horton were honorable mention district picks.
The Lady Bears will play in three tournaments, including their own one-day event on Sept. 2. The team also will compete in the Bryson Tournament from Aug. 10-12 and Chico Aug. 17 and 19. Read more, and see the complete schedule, in the print and electronic versions of the July 22 Bowie News.
