HIGH SCHOOLS: Rabbit, Indian introductions Aug. 10

For the past few years, “Meet the Rabbits” had been on a sweltering Saturday evening.

But, the new leadership group with the Bowie Booster Club opted to change the event to a Thursday this year, and it’s set for 8 p.m. on Aug. 10 at Jackrabbit Stadium.

“I think it’s a good idea,” said Bowie athletic director and football coach Dylan Stark. “It will probably help bring more people to meet our athletes and stick around for midnight practice.”

“Meet the Rabbits” will essentially be a lead-up to the “Midnight Madness” practice set for the first minute on Aug. 11 – the first allowable date for football players to wear pads and face collisions.

The event will be packed with games and more, and the imposing inflatable run-through rabbit will be set up for the first time in a while.

“We wanted to combine the two in hopes that more of the community will attend both events,” said 2017-18 Booster Club President Jill Jones. “I thought if we had a crowd there already, then they might stay and experience Midnight Madness as well.”

Players in the following sports will be introduced: Football, volleyball, cheerleading and girls’ and boys’ cross country. The Mighty Marching Maroon also is expected to play the school song.

Parent Jason Seymour is the master of ceremonies. Read more in the Aug. 5 Bowie News.
