OUTDOORS: Hunting, fishing licenses available

Published

on

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has announced 2016-17 hunting and fishing licenses are on sale beginning Aug. 15.
All current Texas licenses (except year-to-date ones) expire Aug. 31.
Every year, the department issues more than 2.4 million licenses through the agency’s 28 field offices, state parks and retailers across the state.
All revenue generated from the license fees pay for conservation efforts and recreational opportunities to help make Texas a better place to hunt and fish.
Fish stocking programs, wildlife management, habitat restoration, public hunting leases and river access permits are just some of the initiatives paid for by license fees.
This year, license purchases also may make voluntary donations to veteran’s causes and the expanded Hunters for the Hungry program.
Disabled veteran’s and Texas resident active-duty military aren’t charged for a hunting license; however, proof of residency and disability are required. There’s also a Texas resident active-duty military hunting package that’s free of charge.
Hunters and anglers may purchase their new hunting and fishing licenses at retailers, online at www.tpwd.texas.gov or by phone at 1-800-895-4248. Read more in the Aug. 9 Bowie News.
