Chicken & Bread Days adds new Friday night events

The 22nd annual Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival takes place this weekend with new activities on Friday night, complimenting the traditional Saturday schedule.
The main festival will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 7 throughout downtown Bowie.
Admission is free and the public is invited tp kick off fall in downtown Bowie. The day will include arts and crafts, as well as food vendors, the kid’s tractor pedal pull and kid’s games, car show, live music and an art exhibition.
After the success of the Chisholm Trail Anniversary Celebration earlier this year, a Sip and Stroll evening has been added to Friday night. From 6 to 8 p.m. guests can sip local wines and shop in their favorite downtown stores. There also will be a concert with Monty Dawson.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
