Congressman gets early preview of new ITC in Bowie
By BARBARA GREEN
North Central Texas College and the Bowie Texas 4B Sales Tax Corporation will celebrate the completion of the new industrial technology center at the Bowie campus with a grand opening ceremony 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
There will be a ribbon cutting and program featuring college and local dignitaries as the new campus is dedicated. Lunch will be served to guests afterward and NCTC will have information booths setup exploring its programs. The public is invited to attend.
The new technology center is a project financed by the 4B Sales Tax Corporation and it has been in the planning stage for more than two years as the group worked closely with NCTC officials to develop an industrial technology program that could serve the needs of the Montague County area.
Ward Wallace, president of the 4B board, said they are excited about the new opportunities the ITC will open for everyone who may be interested in technical training.
“Education broadens the horizons for everyone, so I think it is really good to expand. We have also had several employers from outside the area who want to send their workers to train on the new machinery, so it also can bring in some outside people,” said Wallace.
Monday afternoon college officials, members of the 4B board got an early preview of the new building along with District 13 U.S. Congressman Mac Thornberry (R-Amarillo), his wife Sally.
Kenny Smith, program instructor, gave Thornberry a tour of the building explaining the different machines and the classes that will be taught. Architects Dick Bundy and Ken Dowdy both of BYSP Architects of Wichita Falls also assisted with the tour.
