Search begins for 2018 Jim Bowie Days royals

The Jim Bowie Days Association is looking for young women to compete in the 2018 Jim Bowie Days Rodeo Queen Contest.
The Little Miss contest is open to girls ages 13 and under, and the queen contest for girls 14 to 21 as of June 1, 2018.
Contestants must provide a sponsored entry fee of $25. All contestants must attend a pre-contest meeting at 3 p.m. on May 20 at the Jim Bowie Days Arena. Applications and a contestant photo are due at that time.
The contest will be on June 29 with horsemanship at 8 a.m. in the JBD Arena. Brunch and interviews will take place afteward.
Contestants will be required to ride during the grand entry and rodeo on June 28-30, and attend the 10 a.m. Saturday morning parade and all the festival activities.

The 2018 Miss Jim Bowie Days Queen will win a two-horse trailer, a $500 college scholarship, clothing allowance and more.
The Little Miss will win a saddle certificate from Teskey’s, clothing allowance and more.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
