Shebang event offering great auction items
There will be many useful and enjoyable items up for live auction in the annual Shebang fundraiser for Tales ‘N’ Trails Museum, Montague County’s largest history museum planned for Sept. 29.
The museum operates on donations, memberships and foundation/grant support. Proceeds from Shebang go directly to operations and expansion of the museum. This year the banquet will celebrate the oil and gas industry heritage of the county.
Tickets for Shebang are $50 each or get a table for eight for $350. It includes a filet mignon dinner, the live and silent auctions, the popular “bucket” auction, the spin-the-wheel game and entertainment. Call the museum at 825-5330 to reserve your tickets.
Shebang will be at the Veranda Inn Events Center, 1523 E. U.S. Highway 81 in Nocona. Doors open at 6 p.m. on Sept. 29.
The live auction will feature some big items including two loads of base rock, 50 square bales of horse hay, a watercolor class for six, dinner for eight, a Nokona ball glove, hand-painted ceramic tile-top coffee table, a helicopter tour of the county, tickets to Nocona Nights Music Festival, a hot air balloon ride for two, sports memorabilia and a vacation to New Orleans.
In the silent auction take your chance to win from an array of art prints, rare books, gift items, tickets to Ancient Ovens, a one-hour massage, tickets to an Escape Room and more. For the bucket auction there will be community gift baskets with gift certificates and goodies from the region.

Letters to Santa due by Dec. 4
Hey kids, it’s time to get your letters ready for Santa Claus!
The Bowie News invites families to submit their letters to Santa for publication in the Dec. 21 edition. Forms are available on our Facebook page and at bowienewsonline.com.
Print out a form and drop it off in Santa’s mailbox at the News office, 200 Walnut Street or in one of the school Santa boxes across the county.
Deadline to send in a letter is Dec. 4. While this may seem early there are hundreds of letters to type and then they have to ship off to the North Pole for the Big Guy to read.

New flag poles installed at military memorials

New mayor takes oath in Saint Jo
A new mayor and two returning aldermen took the oath of office on Nov. 13 for the Saint Jo City Council.
The three races were uncontested during the recent election. Kelly Williamson will take over as mayor, as Colton Thomas and Melissa McPherson continue in their places. Thomas was elected to be mayor pro tem.
Aldermen took care of numerous organizational tasks related to its economic development boards and the council. Former Mayor Shawn Anderson and Hennessey were removed from city-related accounts, with the new mayor and mayor pro tem and McPherson were added to the city accounts.
