Jackrabbits lose at Whitesboro

Published

on

A bad first quarter gave the Bowie Jackrabbits no chance at Whitesboro on Friday.
The Jackrabbits (1-5, 0-2 in district) lost 43-0 on a muddy field that did not slow down Whitesboro’s (5-2, 2-1) explosive passing offense down at all while Bowie struggled to finish promising drives with scores.
It did not take long for things to go south. After receiving the opening kick-off, the Jackrabbits threw an interception. After a big catch and run from inside Bowe’s five-yard line, Whitesboro scored from four yards out to go up 7-0.
Bowie’s second drive went nowhere. The Bearcats then struck fast as their quarterback hit their receiver on a skinny post for a 67-yard touchdown pass to go up 14-0.
The Jackrabbits were finally able to move the ball a bit on their third drive as they passed midfield with some modest runs. Unfortunately, Bowie threw another pick on third and long that was returned just inside Jackrabbits territory.
After some big running plays off tackle and some completed passes, Whitesboro moved inside Bowie’s 10-yard line. They then threw a nine-yard touchdown pass. A bad snap on the extra point made the score 20-0. Not long after, the Bearcats recovered a fumble and threw a 12-yard touchdown pass just before the first quarter ended. Another bad snap on the extra point made the score 26-0 heading into the second quarter.
The Jackrabbits were able to move the ball against Whitesboro as they went on a long drive that took up almost half the quarter. Unfortunately, they ran out of steam and turned the ball over on downs. The Bearcats took their time as they spent almost the rest of the quarter to drive down the field, scoring from three-yards out to go up 33-0 at halftime.
Needing to come out on fire to turn this type of game around, no spark ever came from Bowie. Whitesboro took the opening kick-off and drove down the field, scoring in less than a minute and half to make the score 40-0. It was not until the Bearcats next two possessions where the Bowie defense forced Whitesboro’s offense to punt. The Bearcats added a chip shot field goal from the Jackrabbit’s one-yard line in the fourth quarter to make the final 43-0.

Nocona got its new press box into place this week at Jack Crane Stadium. The old press box, which was in place for more than 60 years, was taken out in early June and moved to Indian Valley Raceway. The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
