Jackrabbit Invitational launches powerlifting season’s opening

Published

on

The powerlifting season officially got under way on Saturday as Bowie hosted the Jackrabbit Invitational, featuring athletes from 12 schools on the boy’s side and 14 schools from the girl’s side.
In the end, the tournament hosts saw their boys team just edge out Sanger for first overall and the girl’s team finishing just ahead of Collinsville as they finished runners-up to division two Springtown.
The Jackrabbits saw 10 boys earn medals by finishing in the top five and earning points toward the team total. Top finishers for Bowie were Dalton Davis winning the 148 pound weight class with a total 915 pounds and Ty Harris winning the 165 pound weight class with a total of 1,075 pounds.
Other medalists in their weight classes include Raiden Brezina, Colton Covington, Roman Rivas, Joey Crawford, A.J. Craddock, Jacob Skinner, Victor Tran and Tyson Herron.
The Lady Rabbits saw eight girls earn medals with two finishing top of their weight class. Carrington Davis won the 181 pound weight class with a total of 910 pounds, almost 200 pounds more than second place. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Jessie Henry won the 97 pound weight class by lifting a total of 505 pounds.
Other medalists include Sierra Skinner, Emma Skinner, Maddie Baker, Kerstin Kindsfather, Jenna Rogers and Chelsea Price.
Coach Quentin Berend liked what he saw to start the season from both of his teams.
“Overall, both the girls and boys did outstanding, even with lots of new faces,” Berend said. “Freshman Jenna Rogers finishing second in the 165 pound class and Dalton Davis winning the 148 pound class was a nice surprise.”
Nocona also brought their team to the meet. While they did not have as many compete as some teams did, the athletes they did bring made it count. The boy’s team finished fourth overall while the girls finished 10th.
The boys had four medalists, with three of them earning second in their weight classes. In the super heavy weight class Brady York finished second with 1,275 pounds lifted. In the weight class below in the 275 pounds, Deuce Glasker finished second with 1,240 pounds lifted.
To contrast, Michael Ellis finished second in the lightest weight class at 114 pounds, lifting 625 pounds total. The other lifter who earned a medal was Tyler Richards, who finished third in the 148 pound weight class, but was just 10 pounds behind the leader.
The Lady Indians only brought two lifters, but both competed in the same weight class and both earned medals. Taylor Richards finished fourth in the 165 pound class while Alleeyah Silcox finished fifth. Both lifted 645 pounds total, but with Richards weighing in at a lighter weight, she finished a spot higher.
