County prepares to restart abatement process with new property owner

With the demolition of the damaged building just one day away, Montague County officials stopped the abatement process and appear to be pondering their legal options.
The proverbial wrecking ball was set to start on Thursday at the corner of Franklin and State Highway 59, after county personnel fenced off the building on Monday. At its meeting that morning, the court voted 4-1 to move forward with the abatement and demolition of the building despite a new owner being announced.
As of Friday morning, Commissioner Bob Langford who was coordinating the process said he talked with County Judge Rick Lewis Thursday and learned the county attorney is preparing papers to serve on new property owner Toby Vann for the abatement.

Bowie, Nocona libraries wrap up summer reading this week

Local libraries wrap up their children’s summer reading programs this week.
The Bowie Public Library brings the popular Creature Teacher with all their spectacular animals for the final event on July 23 at the Bowie Community Center.
The program begins at 10 am. The children also will receive their prize books for their summer logs.
The Nocona Public Library ends its program at 10 a.m. on July 24 at the H.J. Justin Building at 100 Clay Street. The program will be “Our Own Action Heroes -” Nocona fire, police and EMTs.
