Retired educator Debbie Herriage began her new job as director of membership for the Bowie Chamber of Commerce on Monday.
The board of directors are excited to have someone filling a vacancy open since last September when the former executive director left for another job. Board President Michael Daily said he received five applications, but when he met with Herriage he had a great feeling about her.
“She was very respectful, well-spoken and I could tell she liked Bowie and would make a good representative for the chamber. When I was able to visit with others about her volunteer participation and her involvement with other events in Bowie, I knew I had made the right choice to present to the board. I believe once she is trained for the position she will do very well,” explained Daily.
She will staff the office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday.
The new director of membership has lived in the Bowie area for about two years, moving here from the Euless area following her retirement from teaching. Herriage spent 28 years as a physical education teacher across the elementary level. Read the full story in the mid-week Bowie News.
