Krewe de Barkus opens Mardi Gras in Nocona

Krewe de Barkus opened the 2020 Mardi Gras Nocona Style Thursday afternoon, and despite a cold chill a large group of colors canines and their people attended. Results were: Small dog – Pitman, first; Boogie Mauricio and Finley, second and Ashley and Linsey Henley with Maybell and Lilly; large dog – Maddie Ferguson and Barkley, first; Wyatt Yowell and Bonnie Lass, second and Gale Smith with Kayla, third. Lucky Paws Animal Shelter is the event host. The festival continues through Saturday with the Big Parade at 3 p.m.; Mardi Gras 5K/10K at 8 a.m.; Krewe De Chaussures Flotteurs parade at 10:30 a.m. and Krewe de Kiddos at 12:30 p.m. Parade are in downtown and the smaller ones start at the park. Bowie fish fry to assist youth fair sales on Jan. 4

Enjoy a fish fry and live music concert on Jan. 4 all to support the 4-H and FFA youth of Montague County as they compete in the annual youth fair.
The annual Bowie fish fry for the Bowie buyers group will begin serving at 5:30 p.m. at the Bowie Community Center. Cost is $10 per plate. There will be a live auction at 7 p.m.
The evening’s concert will feature Dax Davis. Live music begins at 8:30 p.m. with the Davis concert at 9:30 p.m. Cost for the concert is $25 per ticket and $20 for a student, or $300 for a reserved table for eight.
