District 68 special election set for Jan. 23

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a proclamation announcing Jan. 23 as the date for the special election to fill the Texas House of Representatives District 68 seat recently vacated by District 30 Senator-elect Drew Springer.
Candidates who wish to have their names placed on the special election ballot must file their applications with the Secretary of State no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 4.
Early voting will begin on Jan. 11.
House District 68 includes the counties of Childress, Collingsworth, Cooke, Cottle, Crosby, Dickens, Fisher, Floyd, Garza, Hall, Hardeman, Haskell, Jack, Kent, King, Montague, Motley, Stonewall, Throckmorton, Wheeler Wilbarger, and Young.
Three people have announced their intention to run for the seat. They include former Jack County Commissioner John Berry, Cooke County Judge Jason Brinkley and Jacksboro attorney David Spiller.

Brief agenda awaits city council

Members of the Bowie City Council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. on May 13 in council chambers.
The meeting opens with a proclamation for Emergency Medical Services Week.
City Manager Bert Cunningham will report on recent rainfall problems, Smythe Street sidewalk project and the substation work.
There is only one item of new business an ordinance related to speed limits on specific streets. Public comments and approval of minutes wrap up the agenda.

The board of directors of the Amon Carter Lake Water Supply Corporation will meet at 6 p.m. at Carter Lake Baptist Church 4759 FM 1125.
