Gold-Burg
The Gold-Burg Bears were able to send the homecoming crowd home happy as they beat Chillicothe on Friday.
The Bears won in the third quarter 54-6 by mercy rule to pick up their second win of the season.
With homecoming festivities happening before the game, there was plenty of reason for Gold-Burg to start the game flat. The Eagles took advantage, scoring on their first play of the game to go up 6-0. After that it was all Bears.
The defense did not allow another point while Gold-Burg scored on every offensive drive.
It was 42-6 at halftime, with it being a matter of time before the Bears won in the third quarter.
Coach Joe Helms thought it was easily the best his team has played so far this season.
The Bears next three games are all on the road, though Helms thinks that won’t affect his team negatively.
Gold-Burg is next scheduled to play at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Ranger.
Nocona
The Nocona Indians are still seeking their first win after losing at Ponder on Friday.
The Lions won 61-14 against the Indians as the defense was still an issue.
There were some positives to take away for Nocona in the first quarter. After Ponder took the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, the Indians went on back-to-back scoring drives.
Quarterback Brady McCasland found Ian Hostetter in the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown pass. McCasland then ran in a score from eight yards out on the next drive.
Nocona led 14-6 at this point, scoring not only its first offensive points of the season but the teams first lead in any of the games this season.
It went downhill after that. Ponder scored two quick touchdowns before the first quarter ended and led 20-14. With four touchdowns scored in the second quarter and the Lions leading 49-14 at halftime, it was all but over with another half to play.
Nocona is next scheduled to host Chico in its homecoming week. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17.
Forestburg
The Forestburg Longhorns lost against Dallas Academy on Friday night.
The Bulldogs won 46-0, though the Longhorns made them win it in the third quarter in this game.
Despite the loss, Coach Greg Roller said he saw some great improvement from his team from their first game the previous week to the second game.
Forestburg is next scheduled to play Bryson. With the Cowboys also having mostly younger players as well, Roller hopes his team will have a fair shot at winning this week.
The game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 17 at Bryson.
