Sunset fire truck hit at accident scene

Sunset firefighters and other first responders barely escaped what could have been a catastrophic accident on icy roads Wednesday when an 18-wheeler’s trailer struck the fire truck parked on the shoulder of U.S. Highway 287 as they responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident.
The fire engine was damaged while the firemen were on a call along southbound Hwy. 287, south of the exit for Cemetery Road. The incident happened shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Captain Nathan Wilson of the Sunset Volunteer Fire Department said they were responding to the scene where a car had rolled over off the side of the highway.
“We went past the scene because there was a big truck behind us that was sliding, so we stopped past the scene and reversed back on the shoulder to set up blocking. He would have reared ended us if we had not kept going,” exclaimed Wilson.
