First community dinners this Thursday, Bowie dinner on Nov. 23

As the days tick away to November’s happy holiday of Thanksgiving communities are planning their dinner events.
Saint Jo and Forestburg will host their community dinners on Nov. 16 and the Bowie dinner will be on Nov. 23. Families and those who may not be able to be with family on this holiday are invited to attend these free events.
The Forestburg Community Service Club members present the holiday dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 16 at the community center. The club will provide meat, dressing, bread and drinks, while guests are asked to bring a side dish and/or desert.
In Saint Jo, the civic center board will provide the turkey, ham, dressing, gravy, bread and drinks. Others are asked to bring their favorite side dishes (vegetables, salads or desserts) to complete the meal. Food may be dropped off at the civic center that morning. Dinner will be served at noon on Feb. 16.
The Nocona Senior Center will host its annual Thanksgiving Feast at noon on Nov. 16 at the center. Cost is $10 per person and $5 for kids 12 and under. Those under four eat free. Dine-in and to-go orders available. RSVP to 940-825-3148.
First Methodist Church of Bowie members will once more host the Bowie community Thanksgiving Day dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They invited you to come as you are to share a meal in fellowship hall or call for delivery or carry-out.
Delivery orders will be taken until noon on Nov. 22. Call the church office at 940-872-3384. Calling to report pick-up meals is helpful, although not necessary. There is no charge for dinner.

Offices closing for final holiday of year

The last big holiday of 2024 arrives on Dec. 31 with News Year’s Eve.
Most government offices and the post office will be closed on Jan. 1. The Bowie News office will close on Dec. 31 and on Jan. 1.
The Bowie News will have an early print deadline on Monday and go out to readers one day earlier on Tuesday. The print edition will be delivered to the post office and racks, while the e-sub will also go out on Tuesday morning.

Bowie Community Development presents window decoration awards

Bowie Community Development presented awards to the window decoration contest during the Candy Cane Sip & Stroll. Gaylynn Burris of the BCDB presented Rustic Wings/Belle Rose Boutique with the first place award. Second place went to Rustic Rose Furniture and Treasures. Studio 81 Tattoos and Hwy 59 Boutique were third and fourth place winners. The contest is sponsored by Bowie Community Development.

Newly elected officials prepare to take the oath

Jan. 1, 2025 is the first day of a new elected term for many Montague County officials. There will be a swearing-in ceremony at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 in the courthouse annex.
The public is invited to attend with refreshments to follow.
Officials being sworn in are: Sheriff Marshall Thomas, County Attorney, Commissioner One Roy Darden, Commissioner Three Mark Murphey, Constables Jerry DeMoss and Harvey Johnson and Tax Assessor Kathy Phillips.
