Earnest “Glen” Jones

BOWIE – Earnest “Glen” Jones, 97, passed away on Oct. 1, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 14 at the White Family Funeral Home in Bowie. A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. on Oct. 15 at Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie with Brent Spray officiating.
Glen was born Sept. 16, 1927 in Jefferson City, MO to Earnest Truman and Ruth Ann (Morris) Jones. As a young man he served in the United States Army Occupational Forces in Japan from 1946-1948. He then graduated from Texas A&I with a bachelor of business administration in 1951 and went on to earn an master of business administration from the University of Houston in 1953. Glen worked as an analyst for the accounting department of Shell Oil Company from 1951-1961.
On Oct. 15, 1955 Glen married Lois Ann Hodde in Houston. The couple were married just shy of 69 years. In 1961 he received a bachelor of laws from Bates College of Law and joined Bettis Coffield in law practice. From 1963 to 1966 Glen served as the Bowie City Attorney, then County Judge from 1966-1970 and County Attorney from 1970 to 1972.
He was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church. He served on the original board of the Top of the Lake Country Club, the First Saving and Loan board and was a member of the Tri County Bar Association where he served as president. He was the first president of the Jim Bowie Square Dance Club and Scout Master of Troop 116 for 15 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Harvey and husband RD, Patricia Jones and Janet Satterwhite and husband Cotton.
Glen is survived by his wife, Ann Jones, Bowie; son, Jeb Jones, San Antonio; daughter, Vanessa McCarthy and husband Kenneth, Tampa, FL; sisters, Judith Carrier, Fort Worth and Barbara Pulliam, Denton and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lynn Vassil Adams

WILSON, OK – Lynn Vassil Adams, 79, died on Oct. 7 at home in Wilson, OK.
A visitation was from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 8 at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 9 at First United Methodist Church in Nocona officiated by ministers Dave Woodbury and Austin Wright. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. in Bomar Point Cemetery in Wilson, OK.
He was born May 3, 1945 at home in Wilson, OK to Louie and Susie (Griffin) Adams. He worked hard all his life starting at the age of eight as a shoe shine boy. He graduated from Wilson High School class of 1963 then was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1967. He was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany after training at Fort Polk, LA and spent two years serving the country.
While stationed in Germany, Mary followed him after her college graduation and they were married on Aug. 19, 1967. Upon his release he returned to Oklahoma and continued his education and received his bachelor of arts degree in business and marketing at Central State College in Edmond, OK. While attending college, he worked for a body shop fixing automobiles, and after graduation he then went to work for Olivetti-Underwood as a salesman selling business products. They returned to the Ardmore area and he went to work in the oil field pulling pipe, and throughout his adult life and career had ties to oil field business.
The couple were in the health care business for eight years while investing in oil production. They then built Uncle Lynn’s Catfish Restaurant in Wichita Falls in 1987 and sold it in 1996. In 2000, they built and opened Cherry Street Village Assisted Living in Nocona.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise (Buck) Adams; his parents, Louie and Susie; brothers, Jack Adams, Billy Adams, Dicky Adams and Robert Adams; sisters, Tommy Lou Idleman, Norma Rutledge and Judy Glasco; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; seven nephews and four nieces.
He is survived by three sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; 26 nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Jimmie “Sue” Fechtler

NOCONA – Jimmie “Sue” Fechtler, 82, died Oct. 2, 2024.
There will be a visitation from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Oct. 7 at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel in Nocona. A funeral service will follow at 9 a.m. on Oct. 7 at Jerry Woods Chapel with minister Larry Knobloch. Interment will follow in Montague Cemetery.
She was born Jimmie Suella Gelfond on Sept. 24, 1942 to John J. Gelfond and Betty Ruth Miller Gelfond in Tucson, AZ. She married Melvin G. Fechtler on Dec. 28, 1972 in Mobile, AL. The couple moved to Montague County in 1980 and built their home of 44 years on Fechtler Road. They farmed and ranched for many years. She was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Bowie. She also hosted the church Singles Group at her home.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Betty Gelfond; husband, Melvin Fechtler; son, Jim Fechtler and sister, Marie Sloan.
She is survived by her daughter, Charis “Charlie” Hunt, Arlington; two grandsons; sister, Linda Lee Vanderipe, as well as extended sons, daughters, grandchildren and nephews.

Glenna Dean Drew

BEDFORD – Glenna Dean Drew, 85, died Sept. 30, 2024 in Fort Worth.
A graveside service took place at 11 a.m. on Oct. 4 at Hopewell Cemetery in Stoneburg, with Rex Hamilton as the officiant. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the cemetery.
She was born July 18, 1939 in Bowie to Otis Lee and Jessie Fleetice (Edgerton) Tucker. She graduated from Bowie High School in 1957. As a young woman she spent her days as a homemaker. She then went to work for Ward’s Drug, and later worked as a secretary for many years in the insurance industry at National Farm Life. She later began a career with Stafford Louden Print Company and Tarrant Printing for many years until her retirement. In 1989 she met Carl Drew and the couple married in 1994 in Fort Worth. She attended many years at the Ark of Faith Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Drew, Bedford; sons, Steve Stover, Keller, Michael Stover, Fort Worth and Carl James “C.J.” Drew IV, Conroe, TX; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth Tucker, Fort Worth and Jerry Tucker, Lufkin, TX; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Shriners Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
