AWARDS: Forestburg recalls a historic year

The Forestburg High School athletic program had a historic run during the 2015-16 academic calendar.
The school district feted those accomplishments during the year-end awards banquet, which took place this past Thursday.
The Longhorn football team, under the direction of head coach Wayne Tuckwell, won its first-ever district and bi-district championships – before falling to Motley County in the area round of the Six-Man Division II playoffs.
Taten Vann became the first football player in school history to sign a National Letter of Intent to continue his career on the college level – at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.
Forestburg also produced deep playoff runs in girls’ and boys’ basketball and volleyball, the last of those sports the Lady Horns advanced to the Conference 1A regional semifinals.
Recently, Cheyenne Banks and Skyler Sandusky both qualified for the University Interscholastic League state meet down in Austin.
Sandusky and Kaylee Choate were selected as the male and female athletes of the year, respectively, at Forestburg. Read more in the May 25 Bowie News.
