Forestburg High School hasn’t visited the University Interscholastic League girls’ basketball playoffs since the 2007-08 season.
However, on Monday at Alvarado High School, the Lady Horns looked like a bunch of postseason pros as they outscored Avalon 25-0 in the opening quarter en route to a 73-20 Conference 1A-III Bi-District victory.
“We played strong defense and we kept them to single digits in all four quarters,” Forestburg head coach Rosana Barbosa said. “As being our first playoff game, the girls were relaxed, and that helped us to have a great game.”
In addition, Barbosa said Forestburg tried different defenses to see which may work best in the next round.
The Lady Horns will match up with Saltillo in the area round. The game is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday at Princeton High School. Princeton is a suburb of McKinney.
“We are excited for the opportunity and we are ready to play our second round game,” Barbosa said.
