The Bowie High School girls’ basketball team had a chance to surge ahead during Wednesday’s third-place game at the 58th Annual Whataburger Tournament.
Wall’s Maddi Chitsey picked up her third foul early in the second quarter, and Bowie didn’t take advantage of it as the Lady Hawks pulled ahead 23-20 at halftime and eventually earned a 54-39 victory at Saginaw High School gymnasium.
Bowie went 2-2 at the tournament for the second straight year.
“I would have been happier 3-1, but Wall’s a great team,” Bowie head girls’ basketball coach Colby Davis-Pastusek said. “They gave us some problems down in the paint, and they also stepped up and made big shots (outside).”
Wall won with marksmanship, making 21-of-42 field goals, while Bowie was 16-of-52 (31 percent).
