On May 29, the new Bowie News sports editor had the privilege of attending the Nocona High School athletic banquet in the elementary school gymnasium.
Watching the proceedings, it was clearly evident how much Nocona cares about the sport of volleyball.
Sandy Langford, who has spent the past few years guiding the Indians to greatness, cried several times while discussing the 2013 season. And the tears rolled for good reason.
As many readers surely know by now, Langford has accepted a similar coaching position at Glen Rose outside of Stephenville.
Langford’s coaching propelled the Indians to the 2011 University Interscholastic League Conference 2A state championship match, before falling to Poth in three straight games.
Like Bowie in girls’ basketball, Nocona has its tradition in volleyball. For more, read the weekend edition of The Bowie News.
Nocona volleyball campers gather for a group photo during Wednesday morning’s session. The camp focused on basic fundamentals such as serving, passing and setting. This marked the Indians first camp under new head coach Tiffany Clay. (Photo by Eric Viccaro)
