Bowie utility rate petition ready for council action

A pair of petitions asking the Bowie City Council to rescind a pending Oct. 1 water and wastewater rate hike have received the required amount of signatures and will go to the city council for action when its meets at 6 p.m. Aug. 5.

City Secretary Mitzi Wallace said the petition was turned in July 29. Based on City Charter mandates, the petition was required to have at least 206 names each. Wallace said the water petition had 283 and the wastewater 271 names. At the Tuesday night meeting the council can either accept the petition and rescind the rate increase, call an election or could possibly reject the petition.

Montague County Grand Jury issues November indicted cases

The following indictments were filed with the 97th District Clerk following the November session of the Montague County Grand Jury.
There were a total of 13 indictments with one sealed awaiting the arrest of a suspect.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

New transformer arrives at Bowie substation

The new transformer was placed on its pad when it arrived at the City of Bowie electrical substation last Friday. Installation of this 20 Mva transformer, which is larger than the two 1992 original 12.5 units, will begin this week and come on line early in the new year. (Courtesy photos)
