WORKMAN WATCH: Workman will start throwing program soon

Boston Red Sox pitcher Brandon Workman will begin a throwing program soon, so said manager John Farrell to WEEI.com.
Last week, Workman visited Dr. James Andrews and Andrews determined Brandon didn’t need surgery at this time.
Workman received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection after the visiting with Andrews.
He’s expected to remain in Boston, and begin rehabilitation.
“He’ll remain here,” Farrell said to Ryan Hannable from WEEI.com. “He’s still probably two or three weeks away from initiating any type of throwing program. But that is why he received the injection he did.”
Farrell said the expectation is Workman will pitch again at some point this season.
Originally, Workman was sent down to Triple-A, and he was scheduled to work out of the bullpen for the Pawtucket Paw Sox in Rhode Island.
However, Workman’s option has since been reversed because the injury occurred while he was still a Red Sox. He remains on the disabled list.
Workman finished spring training with a 6.43 earned-run average in seven innings pitched during spring training. He suffered right elbow strain after his last appearance in early April against the Minnesota Twins.
Workman, a former standout at Bowie High School, is not the first Red Sox player to receive a PRP injection.
