May election filings opening, only one city will conduct races

May is traditionally the time for municipal and school elections within cities, but this year things are changing as almost all entities have moved their elections to November.
Entities in the City of Nocona will be the only ones in the county to have May elections this year.
As 2015 came to an end, cities and school districts were informed by County Elections Administrator Brandi Shipman about Senate Bill 733.
Effective Sept. 1, 2015, it allows governmental entities to move elections to coincide with November’s general election.
May election filing began Jan. 20 and will end on Feb. 19 for candidates interested in serving on the Nocona School Board, Nocona Hospital District Board, Nocona City Council and the North Montague County Water Supply District Board.
