Debris fire causes damage to Nocona grocery store

On Jan. 29 the Nocona Fire Department responded to a debris fire at the rear of the Nocona Marketplace Grocery at 400 West U.S. Highway 82.

Rusty Henley, fire chief, said the department arrived on scene at 5:57 p.m. to a large stack of pallets and bundled cardboard that were heavily involved and impinging upon the building and a semi-trailer parked nearby.

The fire was under control in three minutes after arrival and was confined to an outbuilding and the semi-trailer.

Total loss was estimated at $10,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, added Henley.

Judges named to preside over DA Hall cases

Judges have been named for the two cases involving 97th District Attorney Casey Hall, including the indictment for theft and a petition for removal as DA.
On July 11, Judge David L. Evans, presiding judge for the Eighth Administration Region of Texas, assigned E. Lee Gabriel to handle the indictment case against Hall. The judge then named Bruce McFarling for the removal petition case.
The two-term DA Hall was indicted by the Montague County Grand Jury July 15 on a charge of theft of property $2,500 to $30,000, a state jail felony. The allegations stem from reported misappropriation of state grant funds.
