The Bowie High School football team suffered a devastating injury during Friday night’s scrimmage at Burkburnett.
Head coach Dylan Stark reported expected starting quarterback Jeffery Howard will be out for the season stemming from a knee injury he suffered during the scrimmage.
On Monday, it was confirmed Howard tore a couple of ligaments in his left knee.
The injury occurred very early during the varsity scrimmage while the Jackrabbits were having success moving the ball against the Bulldogs.
Many Burkburnett defenders tackled and then piled on Howard during a play.
“It’s very disappointing, especially with the hard work he puts in,” Stark said. “I hated for it to happen.”
After Howard went out with the injury, Brandon Hutto took repetitions as the first-team quarterback.
“I think Brandon did fine,” Stark said. “He knows the system well. He took command of the offense, and moved the ball well.”
Stark said Hutto is just one possible candidate for the starting quarterback spot.
Gary Mosley and Dustin VanWey were possibilities to be the starter for this Friday’s season-opener against Aubrey, Stark reported. Read more in the Aug. 24 Bowie News.
