Former Forestburg High School track and field athlete Skyler Sandusky has joined the track and field team at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
Sandusky has already been put in the decathlete program for the Texans – meaning he’ll compete in the decathlon on the collegiate level.
The decathlon is a grueling series of 10 different events, four on the track and six in the field.
These are the following events: 100-meter dash, 110-meter high hurdles, 400- and 1,500-meter runs, the long jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, javelin throw and pole vault.
“He’ll be lanky for a thrower,” said Steve Sandusky, Skyler’s father and coach at Forestburg. “The pole vault will be a foreign event to him. But, he knows how to hurdle.”
Skyler Sandusky said he’s ready for the challenge.
“It’s 10 events, so that’s tough,” said Skyler, a two-time University Interscholastic League state track and field meet qualifier. Read more in the July 5 Bowie News.
