Gold-Burg boys struggle at holiday tournament

The Gold-Burg Bears had a difficult holiday tournament at Bridgeport, playing against only bigger schools to hopefully get back in shape caused by the long layoff.
The Bears went 0-4 playing against only bigger schools, but it had been nearly two weeks since their last game.
Gold-Burg’s last game was a non-district game on Dec. 15 against Garner. The Bears historically do not do holiday tournaments or warm-up games and would be starting district play after more than a two week layoff.
Whether it’s because new coach Christian Healer insisted or some other reason, Gold-Burg got some work on in the final days of 2023, even if the results were not pretty.
Against tournament host 4A Bridgeport, the Bears lost 82-30. Against 4A Western Hills it was 68-33 against Gold-Burg.
The Bears also played against Montague County neighbors Bowie and Nocona directly for the first time maybe ever. It went how most expected, with the state-ranked 2A Indians winning 84-36 and close neighbor 3A Jackrabbits winning 67-25.
