For Lyndsey Shaw, taking over as the new Gold-Burg High School volleyball coach represents a homecoming.
“I am excited to be close to family,” Shaw said. “My family is in Nocona and my husband’s is in Seymour. It was a location close to home.”
Shaw played her junior and senior seasons at Bowie High under Coach Jeanie Stark. Shaw was an outside hitter, and she was also a standout on the Jackrabbit track and field squad in the pole vault and triple jump.
At Gold-Burg, Shaw reported she will be teaching fifth- through seventh-grade English, plus reading and writing. She could possibly fill a coaching role with girls’ basketball and girls’ track and field squad.
Shaw graduated from Midwestern State in 2008 with a degree in kinesiology and minor in English, and she spent the past few years coaching a various locations throughout Texas.
Most recently, Shaw was the head coach at Clifton, a school district 30 minutes west of Waco. She has also coached at Calallen, Kingsville and nearby Chico.
Shaw said the Bears will be focusing on the fundamentals. For more, read the weekend edition of The Bowie News.
