JUNIOR HIGH FOOTBALL: Nocona, Ponder split games
The Nocona Junior High School football teams split with Ponder on Sept. 11 at Jack Crain Stadium.
The Braves eighth-grade squad downed Ponder 42-6. The Ponder seventh-graders defeated Nocona 28-0.
Nocona will play on Thursday at City View in Wichita Falls. The seventh-grade game is set for 5 p.m. and the eighth-grade game will kick off at 6 p.m.
In the eighth-grade victory, Joan Gomez scored three touchdowns on runs of 14, 44 and 67 yards.
Kade Hilton added a four-yard TD run, a two-point conversion run and a two-point conversion pass. Lane Guerin scampered 13 yards for a TD, and he also had a two-point conversion run and threw a two-point pass.
Alex Diaz took an interception 65 yards for a touchdown. Rowdy Waters also picked off a pass for the Braves.
In the seventh-grade game, quarterback Francisco Garcia and wide receivers Skyler Fenoglio and Carter Horn were named the game’s standouts.
