What a time for Bellevue’s Devon Cassetty to break the 14-minute threshold – at the District 1A-21 cross country meet on Wednesday at Willa Walla Shooting Complex in Dye Mound.
“The hard work the girls put in during the season paid off during the meet,” Bellevue co-head cross country coach Colby Broussard said. “The high school team surpassed my expectations with three top-10 finishers and a district champion. They are one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever coached.”
Cassetty won the district title with a time of 13 minutes, 45 seconds, to win the meet.
Saint Jo won the girls team title and Bellevue was second. On the boys’ side, Bellevue took the team title. All three of these squads have advanced to the regional meet set for Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie on Nov. 1.
The Conference 3A girls will run at 1 p.m. followed by the 3A boys at 1:30 p.m. Conference 1A girls will run at 3 p.m. and the 1A boys at 3:30 p.m.
The Bowie News’ Conference 3A schools are Bowie and Nocona. Bellevue, Forestburg, Prairie Valley and Saint Jo are all in Conference 1A. Bellevue’s Kyle Waller, who didn’t qualify for the regional meet last year, was the boys’ district champion in a personal-best time of 18:46. Waller’s time was 39 seconds clear of second-place Skyler Sandusky of Forestburg (19:25). Read more in the weekend Bowie News.
