HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Jackrabbits cover Jackets

The Bowie High School boys’ basketball team played its best game since its only win of the Whataburger Tournament back in December.
Coincidentally, Bowie thrashed what was thought to be a solid Boyd squad 81-38 in District 3A-9 action on Tuesday evening.
The Jackrabbits improved their record to 15-9 overall, 4-2 in District 3A-9.
“We had several kids in double digits,” said coach Doug Boxell. “The press play helped them get going offensively.”
Bowie’s offensive fired on many cylinders as five players reached double-digit scoring, and the Jackrabbits exceeded 20 points in three of four quarters.
Meanwhile, Boyd scored just five points in the opening salvo as Bowie established a 16-point cushion.
“We were able to turn the ball over well,” said Boxell. “We needed a game like that to get us going.”
That was certainly a factor in Bowie’s win. The Jackrabbits registered 19 steals as a team and Bowie just had eight turnovers itself.
