Keene High School’s Eboni Smith made a bucket inside with 4 minutes, 41 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Lady Chargers had cut Bowie’s lead to 32-30.
But, the Lady Rabbits didn’t panic as they went on a 27-14 run the remainder of the game for a 59-44 Conference 3A Area victory over Keene on Thursday at Texas Woman’s University’s Kitty Winter Magee in Denton.
“In the third quarter, it got tight,” Kamryn Cantwell said. “We just had to slow things down and remember how the Lady Rabbits should play.”
Cantwell was ready to make things happen, and she went on a couple of dribble drives to score rather easy points for Bowie.
In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Brittney Pound canned a 3-pointer from the baseline to give the Lady Rabbits a 44-34 lead.
“We knew we had to keep it together and keep fighting,” Pound said. “We knew Keene was going to keep fighting. They weren’t going to give it to us.”
Both Pound and Cantwell tallied 14 points to support Courtney Brady’s 23-point effort.
