Saint Jo had Forestburg right where it wanted as the Panthers had a 27-14 halftime lead. However, the Longhorns overcame the Panthers in the second half, outscoring them 22-6, for the win.
“We were expecting a rough game,” said Longhorns coach Steve Sandusky. “But it turned out to be a good match against two teams who played well.”
The Horns had closed out the opening quarter with a 15-9 lead, but Saint Jo’s defense played a strong game in the second, holding Forestburg to just two points to gain a lead themselves entering the half.
“We were hoping to play better defense,” said Sandusky. “We did in the first, but could not stop them at all in the second. We worked the ball very well in the beginning but struggled in the second and third quarters.”
The Longhorns turned up the defensive intensity in the third quarter, keeping Saint Jo to just one point.
