Saint Jo City Council moves it meeting to Thursday

The Saint Jo City Council meeting originally scheduled for Feb. 11 has been moved to 7 p.m. on Feb. 12

The meeting will cover a myriad of topics, beginning with possible approval of a new citizen participation plan related to a Texas Community Development Block Grant.

There will be a call for a public hearing on adding an ordinance for the possession or purchase of tobacco products – including electronic cigarettes – and the sale and merchandising of said e-cigs and liquid nicotine to minors.

There will be discussion and action on several matters as it relates to the police department, including possible action on a new K-9 unit and police vehicle.

An executive session is slated for the possible hiring of a third police officer. The city has needed a third officer since Travis Barnaby left the force in December.

The public works department is seeking a sewer machine, and there will be discussion and possible action on this matter.

There will be discussion and possible action on a pair of requests from Jack Schoppa, including one for live bands to play on the square during big events and having a fund-raiser on the square for the Stonewall Saloon.

There will be discussion and possible action on Joe Dial’s request for a National Park Feasibility Study and Mike Martin’s request for applying for a Planning and Capacity Building Grant.

In addition, there will be discussion and possible approval on Economic Development 4A’s updated bylaws.

At the end of the meeting, the council will hear reports from department heads will be given and there will be action on ordering the May 9 elections.

Montague County Grand Jury issues November indicted cases

The following indictments were filed with the 97th District Clerk following the November session of the Montague County Grand Jury.
There were a total of 13 indictments with one sealed awaiting the arrest of a suspect.
A grand jury indictment is not evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

New transformer arrives at Bowie substation

The new transformer was placed on its pad when it arrived at the City of Bowie electrical substation last Friday. Installation of this 20 Mva transformer, which is larger than the two 1992 original 12.5 units, will begin this week and come on line early in the new year. (Courtesy photos)
