LOCAL SPORTS: Girls’ powerlifting meet moved to March 7

Bowie High School Athletic Director Dylan Stark reported the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Region 6 Division 3 meet has been postponed.
The meet has been moved to March 7 at Whitesboro High School.
Early weigh-ins will be 5-6:30 p.m. on March 6.
“Anyone not in line to weigh-in at 6:30 p.m., will not get weighed in,” according to a THSWPA press release.
The regular weigh-in is set for 6-7:30 a.m. on March 7. The judges meeting will follow at 8:15 a.m., a coaches meeting at 8:30 a.m. and lifting at 9 a.m.
There will be a 45-minute break after all the bench presses are through.
The admission fee is $5 for adults and $3 for children. The entry fee is $35 per lifter.
Former Bowie standout athlete Kelsey Grottie holds several meet records, in the bench, dead lift and overall total of 975 pounds in the 198-pound weight division. Grottie established these benchmarks back in 2013.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
