WOMEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS: NCTC places 10th in nation

The North Central Texas College women’s tennis team scored 18.5 points during the first four days of the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament.
The Lions were 1.5 points behind Seward County (Kansas) and one-half point ahead of Pima (Arizona) at the tournament, which is taking place at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson.
ASA College of New York was the leader with 45 points, three ahead of Tyler Junior College.
NCTC’s No. 6 singles player Favi Lopez had the best performance in the tournament, advancing to the semifinals before falling to ASA’s Siuzanna Grigorian 6-1, 6-0 on Wednesday.
Lopez earlier in the tournament defeated Stormi Tipton in the second round and Caitlin Taylor in the quarterfinals.
NCTC’s Georgie Gosen and Alexandria Rodriguez lost in the opening round of play at No. 1 singles and No. 2 singles, respectively.
No. 3 singles player Amy Leiu advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to Efrosina Kariqi from Florida State College at Jacksonville 6-3, 6-0. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
