HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: Bowie wraps up 7-on-7 season

The Bowie High School football team wrapped up 7-on-7 action playing in a Division II State Qualifying Tournament at Boyd on Saturday.
The Jackrabbits went 1-2 on the day, with a victory over Bells by two touchdowns. However, Bowie suffered double-digit losses to Krum and Springtown.
Krum and Melissa qualified for the state tournament set for July 9-10 at Veterans Park in College Station. Springtown had qualified previously on June 6 at Brock.
“Springtown, I think that’s the best team we played (in the tournaments),” said Craig Stallcup, who served as Bowie’s coach.
“We did some good things,” Stallcup continued, “but we also had some breakdowns on offense and defense.”
Bowie substituted more freely than other teams in an attempt to gain experience for more players.
Also, the Jackrabbits don’t run 7-on-7 specific routes, rather running traditional football pass routes. Bowie had players line up in all sorts of positions, including those the players are not accustomed to playing.
