HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Area tournaments on for weekend

Both Gold-Burg and Prairie Valley High School volleyball teams are set for the Harrold Tournament on Aug. 15.
This is a one-day event.
Gold-Burg’s JV is scheduled to play host Harrold at 9 a.m.
The Gold-Burg varsity squad then will play Northside at 9:45 a.m.
Prairie Valley isn’t scheduled to play until noon versus Northside’s JV.
Other teams are Paducah, Benjamin and Knox City’s JV team.
The semifinals are scheduled for 3 p.m., with the third-place match at 5:15 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m. There also will be a consolation title match at 4:30 p.m.
Bryson Tournament
Both the Forestburg and Saint Jo volleyball teams are scheduled to compete in the Bryson Tournament on Aug. 13 and Aug. 15.
Saint Jo will open with Perrin-Whitt at 8 a.m.; then the Lady Panthers will play host Bryson at noon and Montague County rival Forestburg at 3 p.m.
The Lady Horns play Bryson at 10 a.m. and Perrin-Whitt at 1 p.m.
Saint Jo and Forestburg split regular-season district matches last season.
All pool matches will be played best-of-3 with a cap at 30 points, except the third game is capped at 20 points.
Other teams in the tournament are Bryson varsity and junior varsity, Woodson, DeLeon, Petrolia, Graford and Chico, in which former Bowie ISD employee Tommy Tomlinson is an assistant coach.

Prairie Valley Sports Awards

Prairie Valley hosted its high school awards banquet on May 9. The O.C. Mann Award went to Josh Stout and Linzie Priddy.

Gold-Burg High School hosted its awards banquet on May 22. The Gold-Burg Iron Bear Awards went to Eli Freeland-White for boy athlete and Hallie Nelson for girl athlete.

Richey headed to National Finals

Bowie’s Cason Richey (right) and his horse Hello Lashes, qualified for the College National Finals Rodeo this month. Richey competes in team roping as a part of the Texas Tech University rodeo team as a freshman. The CNFR is scheduled for June 15-21 at Casper, WY.
