One of the key elements to a successful season for the Bowie High School volleyball team will be this: Finishing opponents to win matches.
The Lady Rabbits accomplished as much on Tuesday with a straight-set victory over Petrolia 25-22, 25-23, 25-20.
On Thursday, Bowie went 3-1 in pool play at the Glen Rose Tournament, bringing its record to 7-5.
“I was proud of the kids, they played strong (at the Glen Rose Tourney),” Bowie volleyball coach Jeanie Stark said.
Stark continued: “I was proud of the way they finished on Tuesday. Petrolia is a tough team with a tough defense. I’m proud of how they didn’t let it get to a fourth set. Finishing close sets will be a difference-maker for us.”
Karsen Morgan kept Bowie going from her libero position as she scooped up a season-best 26 digs, while Henslee Ogle chipped in with eight digs.
Taylor Thompson and Addy Cook combined for 24 assists in the Lady Rabbits’ 6-2 offense. Cook also paced Bowie in kills with 12 while Madison Little and Karlyn Dean both supplied eight kills.
Karlyn Dean continues to develop into one of the best middle blockers in the area, with five ace blocks in this match.
Thompson served up an ace on the final point of the third set, in which Bowie won five of the final six points. Read more in the weekend Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
