Published

on

The Bowie and Nocona High School volleyball teams are District 3A-9 rivals 20 miles apart.
They inevitably faced each other in the consolation bracket of the Nike ASC Challenge tournament on Saturday at the Advantage Sports Complex in Carrollton, a Dallas suburb.
Bowie went 3-3 in matches while Nocona was 2-4 in the Division 2 bracket. Both teams now stand at 3-4 on the young season. The Lady Rabbits played Petrolia on Tuesday.
“Overall, I was pleased with the weekend,” Bowie head coach Jeanie Stark said. “We played very close to the teams that beat us.”
Stark said the Lady Rabbit offense is beginning to gel.
“We also are more fluid on defense and playing more like a true team,” Stark added. “We need to be more consistent and poised for longer periods of time, execute and limit unforced errors.”
Bowie senior outside hitter Madison Little was named to the all-tournament team with 43 kills, 10 ace blocks and one ace serve.
Libero Karsen Morgan scooped up 56 digs, Carcyn Robertson 34 digs and Henslee Ogle 32 digs to pace the Lady Rabbit defense.
Addy Cook played a strong all-around tournament with 39 kills, 10 ace blocks and 47 assists. Taylor Thompson served up three aces and distributed 56 assists. Karlyn Dean put up 14 ace blocks and Mackenzie Tole 12. Ivy Dennis also contributed in the tourney. Read more in the mid-week Bowie News.

The new press box was by the Southern Bleacher Company out of Graham. Athletic Director Black Crutsinger said they looked at a lot of press boxes and decided they liked the one at Lindsay High School and went with that model. Sean Hutson operated the crane from the Hurd Crane Service that put the press box up for Nocona.
